PanPastel Colors are professional artist quality soft pastels packed in a unique pan format. With colors that are rich, ultra-soft and super-blendable, you can apply PanPastel (dry) color like paint – making it great for painting, drawing and mixed media. Each PanPastel color is loaded with the finest quality artists’ pigments for the most concentrated colors possible. The colors have all been tested for lightfastness and are fully erasable.

PanPastel colors were introduced in 2007 by Bernadette Ward and Ladd Forsline, offering soft pastels in a unique pan format and using specialized Sofft Tools for application, which allow artists to blend and mix pastel colors much like paint. After GOLDEN acquired PanPastel in 2022, the company focused on retaining PanPastel’s unique qualities while expanding the color selection to better serve artists’ needs. Responding to artists’ requests, GOLDEN added 53 new colors—an increase of over 50%—to fill gaps in their palette (including primary colors and popular hues), and discontinued three colors that overlapped existing options. The Signature Sets and other collections were updated to include these new colors, and packaging was redesigned to be more informative and environmentally friendly. The PanPastel story highlights the innovative collaboration and responsiveness to the artistic community that has driven its growth and development.

Sofft Tools
Sofft® Tools utilize a specially formulated micropore sponge designed for optimal application of PanPastel colors. Each tool has a unique shape and size based on artist brushes, providing great variety in mark making with PanPastel. They are re-usable & easy to clean (a quick wipe on a paper towel is all that’s needed when working with different colors) and can be used to apply water-based media as well.
Pastel Mediums
Use PanPastel Mediums to extend the techniques and finished effects that are possible. Mediums have all the characteristics of PanPastel Colors, they are mixable, erasable, low dust, lightfast and professional artist’s quality.
The Colorless Blender enhances the “flow” and extends the blending possibilities of PanPastel. When using Colorless Blender, color can be extended (diluted) & becomes more transparent, but the color itself remains the same.
PanPastel Pearl Mediums add a lustrous pearlescent sheen and shimmer, which changes depending on the angle they are viewed from. The Pearl Mediums are mica-based and can be mixed with all PanPastel Colors for custom pearlescent colors or used on their own for mixed media.
